MIAMI AUTISM PODCAST: How Music Improves Cognitive Decline

The Language of Music & Melody In this episode of The Autism Podcast, Miami Autism Dad Victor Antunez spoke with Andrea Rosado, Community and Partnerships Manager at Mind & Melody. Their conversation centered on how music can transform the lives of individuals with autism and cognitive decline by promoting community and building authentic relationships. Music, Andrea explained, is a universal language. It allows people to connect without relying solely on words, making it accessible for everyone. Mind & Melody’s Inclusive Approach Andrea described how Mind & Melody designs music programs for neurodiverse participants of all ages. These sessions focus on creativity, self-expression, and collaboration. Each program is personalized. This ensures every participant’s strengths are celebrated and their needs are met without unnecessary pressure or unrealistic expectations. From Shared Notes to Real Friendships We explored how music creates bonds that extend beyond the classroom or session. Shared rhythms often lead to meaningful social connections. Andrea noted that families, volunteers, and participants frequently maintain these connections long after the music stops. This makes each program a starting point for ongoing connections. Community Effort Is Key True inclusion cannot be achieved by one organization alone. Andrea emphasized the need for collaboration among families, schools, and local partners. Mind & Melody works with community organizations to bring programs to various settings. This ensures more families can access their inclusive music experiences. Getting Involved Starts Today Families can attend events, volunteer, or explore the benefits of music programs for their loved ones. The first step is simply showing interest. As Andrea said, “Inclusion starts with an open door.” Music, for many, is that door. 📞 Let’s Connect—Because Your Family Deserves More Than Just a Roof If you’re ready to start the journey or just need advice, I’m here to help. MIAMI AUTISM PODCAST: Child Safety with Educator Mary Palacios & Ofc. Flores of Coral Gables PD

Why Autism Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility In this episode of The Autism Podcast, I sat down with Mary Palacios, founder of Crystal Academy. We also spoke to Officer Flores of the Coral Gables Police Department to tackle a topic that keeps autism parents up at night: safety. As a dad to a nonverbal autistic child, I’ve seen firsthand how quickly an ordinary moment can turn into a dangerous situation. In my work as a Realtor who specializes in helping families with autism and disabilities, I’ve also seen how the right home features and neighborhood can support a family’s safety plan. Mary and Officer Flores brought expert insight into what families, schools, and communities can do to prevent tragedy, focusing especially on wandering, also known as elopement. The Risk Is Real — And Preventable Officer Flores shared the sobering statistics: autistic children are at a dramatically higher risk of wandering. Moreover, drowning remains the leading cause of death for those who go missing. She explained how Coral Gables PD trains officers to respond to autism-related emergencies. Additionally, she explained why quick, informed action can save lives. Mary described how Crystal Academy integrates safety into its daily routines—teaching students awareness skills, partnering with families, and ensuring the school environment minimizes escape risks. For families I work with, I often help them think about how these same concepts—secure environments, water safety, and controlled access—can be part of their housing decisions. Collaboration Between Families, Schools, and Law Enforcement The biggest takeaway? No single person can manage autism safety alone. Officer Flores emphasized that parents should proactively connect with local law enforcement. They should share their child’s profile and ask about autism training programs. Mary reinforced the importance of communication between schools and first responders so that everyone is on the same page if a crisis occurs. Safety Starts Before There’s a Problem This conversation was a reminder that safety planning can’t wait for a scare—it has to be built into everyday life. From door alarms to water safety lessons, every small step counts. When families combine these safety measures with thoughtful housing choices, they create an environment where their child can thrive. 📞 Let’s Connect—Because Your Family Deserves More Than Just a Roof If you’re ready to start the journey or just need advice, I’m here to help. MIAMI AUTISM PODCAST: Special Needs Financial Planning—How Parents Can Plan For Tomorrow

An Autism Dad Asking the Questions Every Parent Needs Answered In this episode of The Autism Podcast, I’m not the expert. I’m an autism dad trying to understand how to secure my child’s future. So I brought in 2 people who are experts: Certified Financial Planners Steve Clark and Nelson Maldonado—both seasoned professionals who specialize in helping families like mine make long-term financial decisions that matter. We didn’t talk theory. We talked real life—what happens to your child when you’re gone, and what you need to do now to make sure they’re safe, supported, and set up for life. They also shared real stories of families who accidentally made costly mistakes—like leaving money directly to their child and unintentionally disqualifying them from benefits. Planning for Housing, Not Just Dollars As a Realtor, I know families want answers about housing. Steve & Nelson explained how real estate can be titled inside a trust to give your child a safe place to live without jeopardizing benefits. We talked about how financial planning intersects with legal, medical, and housing decisions, and why having a coordinated plan is the only real protection. You Don’t Have to Know Everything. You Just Have to Start. This conversation was a wake-up call for me—and it might be for you too. You don’t have to be perfect. But you do have to plan. 📞 Let’s Connect—Because Your Family Deserves More Than Just a Roof If you’re ready to start the journey or just need advice, I’m here to help.
