MIAMI AUTISM PODCAST: Yolanda Carvajal of the BEELIVER Cancer Research Foundation

The Story Behind BEELIVER In this episode of The Autism Podcast, I spoke with Yolanda Carvajal, founder of the BEELIVER Cancer Research Foundation. She shared her personal mission to raise awareness and funding for liver cancer research—a fight that began with her own family’s journey. As an autism advocate, I understood Yolanda’s perspective immediately. Families like ours, whether impacted by autism or cancer, often find themselves navigating systems that overlook their needs. Advocacy becomes essential. Why Liver Cancer Research Needs Attention Yolanda explained how liver cancer is one of the most underfunded areas of medical research. Families face devastating diagnoses with limited treatment options, making early detection and research breakthroughs critical. “We can’t wait for change to happen. We have to push for awareness and funding right now.” Yolanda Carvajal The Role of Community Support Our conversation also highlighted the role of community. BEELIVER focuses on connecting families, sharing stories, and providing hope through education and fundraising. These efforts remind people that they are not alone in the fight. From my perspective as a Dadvocate, this message aligns closely with autism work. In both spaces, progress happens when communities unite, share knowledge, and stand together for change. Looking Toward the Future Yolanda spoke about expanding BEELIVER’s reach, funding more research initiatives, and ensuring families have access to resources. The goal is not just awareness but measurable impact—better treatments, stronger networks, and renewed hope. This discussion left me inspired. Whether it is autism or cancer, advocacy driven by love and determination has the power to transform lives. 📞 Let’s Connect—Because Your Family Deserves More Than Just a Roof If you’re ready to start the journey or just need advice, I’m here to help. MIAMI AUTISM PODCAST: Great Heights Academy’s Khia Lopez & CCHS LINK President Sebastian Tamayo on Education and Student Leadership

Great Heights Academy’s Approach to Education In this episode of The Autism Podcast, I spoke with Khia Lopez, leader at Great Heights Academy, and Sebastian Tamayo, President of Christopher Columbus High SchoolLINK Club. Together, we explored how education and leadership create meaningful opportunities for students with disabilities. Khia Lopez on Student Potential Khia shared the mission of Great Heights Academy, which is to provide individualized education and life skills training for students on the spectrum. She emphasized that success is not defined by standardized benchmarks alone. “Every student deserves to be seen for who they are, not just what they can’t do. That’s our focus.” Khia Lopez That message resonated with me deeply. Too often, autism families encounter systems that highlight deficits instead of building on strengths. Student Leadership with Christopher Columbus High School Sebastian spoke about his role leading the Christopher Columbus High School LINK Club, a program that encourages high school students to support peers with disabilities. Through mentorship and student engagement, LINK fosters empathy, inclusion, and real friendships across campuses. He noted that when young people lead, the culture of a school shifts. Support becomes authentic, and awareness becomes natural. Advocacy, Education, and Connection Our conversation highlighted how advocacy intersects with education. Families, schools, and students each have a role to play. For me, the biggest takeaway was this: when educators like Khia and student leaders like Sebastian work together, schools become places of possibility rather than limitation. This discussion reminded me why advocacy must always extend into classrooms. That is where lasting change begins for our children. 📞 Let’s Connect—Because Your Family Deserves More Than Just a Roof If you’re ready to start the journey or just need advice, I’m here to help. MIAMI AUTISM PODCAST: Conversation with President & CEO Ire Diaz of The Advocacy Network on Disabilities

Introducing The Advocacy Network on Disabilities In this episode of The Autism Podcast, I spoke with Ire Diaz, President and CEO of The Advocacy Network on Disabilities. We explored the organization’s mission, the challenges facing disability communities in Miami-Dade, and the importance of strong advocacy. As an autism Dadvocate and parent, I recognize how essential organizations like this are. They give families tools and amplify voices that might otherwise be ignored. Building a Culture of Advocacy Ire explained how the Advocacy Network pushes for systemic change while also supporting individuals and families directly. The work includes training, community education, and ensuring accessibility in public spaces. “Our responsibility is to make sure people with disabilities are not just included but respected and valued in every setting.” Ire Diaz The Challenges Families Still Face During our discussion, Ire acknowledged that progress has been made, but barriers remain. Families often encounter gaps in education, employment, and transportation access. I connected with her perspective because autism families face these same realities daily. Advocacy is about closing those gaps so people can live with dignity. Looking Toward a Stronger Future Ire emphasized the importance of building coalitions. By uniting parents, advocates, and organizations, the community gains the strength needed to push for long-term solutions. This conversation reminded me that advocacy is not about ONE person. It is about collective effort, persistence, and a belief in better outcomes. For me, it reinforced why I continue my own work as an advocate. Every conversation like this brings us closer to a stronger, more supportive Miami-Dade for all. 📞 Let’s Connect—Because Your Family Deserves More Than Just a Roof If you’re ready to start the journey or just need advice, I’m here to help.
